Nominated for the 2024 Eisner Award in the category of Best Short Story for her work on the Wonder Woman stage featuring Trinity, Wonder Woman's daughter, Belén Ortega is one of the most recognized contemporary comic book artists. Her bibliography includes titles such as Batman and Wonder Woman. In fact, she is the first Spanish woman to draw in the official series and one of the few artists to have published in all three markets; American, European and Asian (Japan).
Belén Ortega graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Granada and received a scholarship to study in Japan. She made her professional debut in 2010 with the manga Himawari, which won the National Award in 2007. Other works followed, such as Pájaro Indiano (Indian Bird), the biography of the motorcycle champion Marc Márquez; the Story of a Dream and the bestseller published by Dupuis, Millenium Saga.
2019 marked Belén Ortega's debut at Marvel Comics as cover and interior designer on Miles Morales; Spiderman, Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain Marvel.
In 2021 she began collaborating with DC Comics within the Batman universe, in titles such as Batman; Urban Legends, Tim Drake Special, Punchline (the Joker) or the backups of Catwoman within the official Batman series.
Belén Ortega's recent work for America includes her participation in Batman #136, the Batman anthology, Brave and the Bold, and the new phase of Wonder Woman, where she illustrated the back-up stories centered on a new character, Trinity, Wonder Woman's daughter, and as a cover artist for IMAGE, Boom! Studios, Marvel and IDW. Her most recent work for the European market includes volumes 1 and 2 of Patriarchy with Editions Caurette, with a third final volume expected in 2025.
At the end of 2024, she signed her first exclusive contract with DC Comics and due to the success of the Wonder Woman back-ups, she is working on his first regular series with
Tom King, Trinity: Daughter of Wonder Woman, which focuses on the development of this new character and is expected to be released in mid-2025.
