Mikel Janín

Mikel Janín (Pamplona, 1974). An architect by training, he decided in 2009 to devote himself entirely to the world of comic books.
After works such as El año que fuimos campeones del mundo (The Year We Were World Champions)

and Les Aventures d'Antonin Phylifandre, the Navarrese cartoonist began collaborating with DC on a Justice League special and on limited series such as Titans: Flashpoint, which helped him to obtain an exclusive contract.

The 2011 relaunch of our favorite heroes and villains included the emergence of such appealing concepts as the Dark Justice League. As the group's regular artist, Janín had the opportunity to reimagine iconic characters. He also shared credits with such notable writers as Peter Milligan, Jeff Lemire, or J.M. DeMatteis. He also worked on the summer 2013 event Trinity War, and illustrated chapters of Batman: Detective Comics and Batman Eternal.

2014 was the year of another turning point in his career: Grayson, a collection born out of the events of Eternal Shadows. Written by Tom King and Tim Seeley, Grayson quickly became a critical and sales success thanks to its daring mix of themes.

In the final stretch of 2016, he participated in the crossover The Final Days of Superman. He then became part of the creative team for the relaunch of The Batman, a new #1 integrated into the Rebirth initiative. In the pages of The Dark Knight's main title, he reunited with Tom King, drawing arcs such as I Am Suicide and issues that marked a before-and-after for Gotham City's protector, such as the now classic Batman: The Wedding.

Having become a star on both sides of the Atlantic, he has contributed to commemorative anthologies of the relevancy of Catwoman: 80th Anniversary Special, Robin: 80th Anniversary Special and Joker: 80th Anniversary Special. We also got to enjoy him briefly on Wonder Woman in the pages of Wonder Woman: Season Two - Max Lord’s Revenge.

More recently, Janín teamed up with star writer Grant Morrison on the miniseries Superman and the Authority, reinventing the Man of Tomorrow both ideologically and graphically. We also saw him on Flashpoint Beyond, working with another award-winning writer, Geoff Johns, on the return of an illustrious team from the DC Universe: the Justice Society of America. He is currently working with award-winning screenwriter Tom Taylor as the regular artist on the legendary Detective Comics series, the long-running series where the company's most iconic character, Batman, began his adventures.
