Craig Thompson was born in Traverse City, Michigan in 1975 and grew up in a small rural town in Wisconsin.
Good-bye, Chunky Rice (Astiberri, 2007), his first graphic novel, won the Harvey Award for Best Newcomer and was nominated for Eisner, Ignatz, Eagle, and Firecracker Awards.
While working on Blankets (Astiberri, 2004), Craig paid his bills by writing scripts, drawing and designing comics and illustrations for Nickelodeon, DC, Dark Horse, Marvel, OWL, National Geographic Kids and many other publications. During the promotional tour for Blankets, he produced Carnet de Voyage (Astiberri, 2006), which also served as research material for his next graphic novel, Habibi (Astiberri, 2011).
Later he worked on the children's album Space Dumplins (Astiberri, 2015). In Ginseng Roots, nominated for two Eisner Awards, for Best Graphic Memoir and Best Writer and Artist, Craig takes us back to the universe of Blankets.
