COMIC REWIND

Chris Warner (Portland, Oregon, United States. 1955)

As an editor, writer, artist and inker, Chris Warner has had many different jobs in his 34 years in the comic industry. After working in various different roles in the music business, publishing and advertising he ventured into comics in 1984 as an artist, illustrator and front cover writer in titles such as Alien Legion, Moon Knight and Doctor Strange for Marvel Comics.

In 1986 he wrote and drew Black Cross for Dark Horse. This was followed by series like The American, Predator, Terminator and Aliens vs. Predator. In 1988 he added editorial tasks at Dark Horse to his CV, dividing his time between freelance drawing and scripts, while being an editor on various Dark Horse projects, including Akira, Dirty Pair and Terminator. During this time he was involved in the development of Comics’ Greatest World, Dark Horse’s superhero universe. For this imprint he created Barb Wire, which soon after, became a film.

Chris Warner left the Dark Horse team in 1993 to concentrate on independent work, drawing Team 7 for Image Comics and writing and drawing Barb Wire for Dark Horse. Returning to the Dark Horse editorial team in 1998, Chris has since then focussed on editing, publishing a wide range of comics (Aliens, Empowered, Predator, Conan), graphic novels (Grandville, Best Wishes), manga (Berserk, Lone Wolf and Cub), and art and pop culture books (Blast Off!,Drawing Down the Moon: The Art of Charles Vess) .
