Kelly Sue DeConnick began working in the comic industry by adapting Japanese and Korean comics into English. Five years and over ten thousand pages of adaptations later, she moved over to American comics with 30 Days of Night: Eben and Stella, for Steve Niles and IDW. She soon got work in Image, Boom, Oni, Humanoids, Dark Horse, DC, Vertigo and Marvel. Nowadays, DeConnick is known for her surprising successes like the relaunch of Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel and the legendary western nominated for the Eisner awards, Pretty Deadly, (Bella Muerte, the first two volumes of which have to date been published by Astiberri in 2014 and 2016, respectively), co-created with her friend and long-time collaborator, Emma Ríos.
DeConnick’s most recent project with Valentine De Landro , Bitch Planet, a sharp blow to the heart of science fiction, made its debut to much acclaim in December 2014 and has received many awards. The second volume of this series will be presented by DeConnick herself in the 36th Barcelona International Comic Fair. Kelly Sue DeConnick lives in Portland (Oregon), with her husband, Matt Fraction, and their two children. With their own company, Milkfed Criminal Masterminds, Inc., DeConnick and Fraction are currently working on television projects for NBC/Universal.
