Rosemary Valero-O’Connell

Was born in Minneapolis in 1994, although her family roots originate in Aragon. More specifically, in Zaragoza, the region where she was raised.

In 2016 she graduated from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design with a BFA in Comic. She debuted in the Spanish fanzine Thermozero. Thanks to collaborations in titles aimed to younger audiences such as Leñadoras or Gotham Academy; and even a crossover between both franchises, she gained international fame. A comic derived from the Cartoon Network animated series Steven Universe also contributed to her international acclaim.

Her work has been released in publications such as Kazoo Magazine or The City Pages. In 2018 she was nominated for two Eisner Awards for her comic What is Left, developed for ShortBox independent comics box service. She is a member of the Out of Step Arts (OOSA) cartoonists and her work has been recognized by the Society of Illustrators NY.

Ediciones La Cúpula has published in Spain Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me (2019), her superb start in the world of graphic novels that has already been recognized with three Ignatz awards and a Harvey. Thanks to the collection of stories Don't Go Without Me (Astiberri, 2020) she won an Ignatz award for ‘outstanding artist’.
