Winner of the Comic Barcelona Grand Prize 2023, Trini Tinturé (Lleida, 1935-2024) was a prestigious illustrator and cartoonist with more than 60 years of career. She began publishing in magazines such as 17 años (17 years old), Mercedes or Mary Luz and later in Editorial Bruguera [Sissi, As de Corazones (Ace of Hearts), Joyas Literarias Juveniles (Juvenile Literary Jewels)]. Through the agency Creaciones Editoriales, she began her collaboration in the British market, where her work was published in magazines such as June, Tammy and Twinkle. In 1981 she created the series Emma es encantadora (Emma is lovely) for Bruguera with scripts by Andreu Martin and Pérez Navarro; a series that was a great success. From the seventies onwards she collaborated in the German market (Biggi) and especially in the Dutch market (Tina and Penny magazines), where for many years she drew a much appreciated series by Dutch readers: Liefde in de Lucht! (Love is in the air!).
The exhibition Trini Tinturé, the enchantress of comic strips, is a review of all her work, produced by Ficomic with the indispensable help of the author's daughter, Maris Kopcke. Divided into five parts, it will offer originals and some reproductions of: her works for romantic and fairy publications in Spanish publishers; the series Emma es encantadora (Emma is lovely); her collaborations for the British market; the series she did for publishers in the Netherlands and a space dedicated to other of her works, which will include drawings from her beginnings, Barbie designs, Christmas postcards, comics published in Germany and a sample of the last work she was doing with the scriptwriter Sabra Kemner. Some of his sketches will also be on display.
The exhibition will be completed with a selection of the magazines and books she published and a screen with statements by the author.
Trini Tinturé is part of one of the first generations of professional women cartoonists, who started publishing in the fifties in sentimental and fairy magazines. With the aim of making them visible, as a complement to Trini’s exhibition there will be another exhibition entitled The Lost Generation, in which we will talk about Trini Tinturé's generation.
It will include samples of some cartoonists of the previous generation (Violeta Suárez, Julia Sánchez, Rosa Galcerán and Pili Blasco), to make way for cartoonists and scriptwriters who started in the fifties in Spanish publishing houses in magazines such as Azucena, Florita, Cuentos de la Abuelita (Grandma’s Tales) or Sissi.
We will show some examples of the work of: Juanita Bañolas, Carmen Barbará, María Barrera, Isabel Bas, María de los Ángeles Batllé, Purita Campos, Carmen de Haro, Guadalupe Guardia, Pepita Pardell, María Pascual, Armonía Rodríguez and Josefina Sosa.
Both exhibitions will feature portraits of the artists by Carla Berrocal.
